California Lighting Technology Center Open House
Celebrates Energy-Efficiency Research at UC Davis and Statewide

DAVIS, CA (January 14, 2010) – The California Lighting Technology Center, UC-Davis (CLTC) is a unique, applied research lab focused on the development and commercialization of lighting products that will reduce energy use in the near-term. If the energy-efficient lighting products that CLTC develops and demonstrates reach anticipated market potential, the demand on California’s electric grid would be offset by the equivalent of an average-sized power plant.

The California Lighting Technology Center recently relocated to a new facility in Davis. To showcase the Center’s energy efficient lighting technology research, members of the energy-efficiency community are encouraged to attend an open house on Wednesday, January 20, 2010.

The event will take place at the CLTC from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and will include opening remarks from California Energy Commission (CEC) Chairman Karen Douglas and UC-Davis Associate Vice Chancellor of Research Bernd Hamann. Guests will have opportunities to tour the new facility and see demonstrations of leading-edge lighting technologies. These demonstrations include bi-level exterior lighting, office lighting solutions, LED downlights, next-generation dimmable metal halide systems, wireless controls, and more.

The guest list for the open house includes many of the most prominent names in lighting technology research and development as well as representatives from the CEC, various California utilities, architectural firms, and lighting design companies.

The CLTC was established in 2004 through a joint effort of the California Energy Commission and the University of California-Davis in order to stimulate the research, development, demonstration, and application of energy-efficient lighting and daylighting.

The CLTC’s move into its new, 14,000-square-foot facility was the result of impressive job growth and substantial expansion of research and development activities. The Center boasts an affiliate partnership program representing over half of the total sales of the US lighting industry and over thirty employees consisting of professors, full-time staff, graduate student researchers, and student interns. The CLTC's new location is more than twice the size of its previous space. The move enables the Center to accommodate multiple demonstration areas and will provide more room for education, training, and research.

The California Lighting Technology Center is now located at 633 Pena Dr. in Davis.

About the California Lighting Technology Center, UC Davis
The California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) is a research and education facility that focuses on the application of energy-efficient lighting and daylighting technologies through research, development, demonstration, outreach, and education in partnership with utilities, manufacturers, end users, builders, designers, and governmental agencies. CLTC is a part of the University of California, Davis and the Energy Efficiency Center. CLTC was established through a collaborative effort of the California Energy Commission’s Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) Program and the University of California, Davis, with support from the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association to advance energy efficient lighting and daylighting technologies.
